84th avenue

the trees, they finally touch each other
they've been reaching out all spring
green buds like closed fists opening
and stretching fingers to grasp one another
above the street, its boulevards and sidewalks
and neighbours, some friendly
some strange, some strangers
but the trees, they touch over the road
an old-growth tunnel steering me straight
towards home
